Version 2,1,1,1 release notes

Release date 05.08.2004. CSM 2,1,1,1 corrects a fault introduced in version 2,1,1,0, which meant that users with certain versions of the PDF2 experienced crashes when rebuilding index files.

Version 2,1,1,1 is the final version of CSM-2. See the CSM-3 release notes for details of the latest version.

Version 2,1,1,0 release notes

Release date 16.10.2003. CSM 2,1,1,0 incorporates a number of bug fixes in the code for loading and saving .csm documents. In addition, minor enhancements have been made to the extraction of information from the PDF cards. The phase type designation (eg alpha-Quartz, kappa-Aluminium oxide etc) is now extracted and prepended to the material name. Also, very long formulae are now accurately parsed, correcting a problem in which such cards could wrongly pass the restriction set. Many thanks to Bente Lebech and her colleagues at Risų for their help in resolving these issues.

Version 2,1,0,2 release notes

CSM 2,1,0,2 is the first version of the program to be available to all users as a free upgrade. Changes from previous versions fall into three categories

Algorithm changes

Feedback from users has led to a small number of subtle adjustments to the algorithm. Most noticeable is the inclusion of a new search-match setting: Auto Residual. By default CSM will automatically recalculate the Candidate Materials list against the residual pattern each time a material is matched. Turning off the new setting Auto Residual allows this behaviour to be altered so that the Candidate Materials list is always scored against the complete unknown pattern. This can sometimes be useful if the unknown contains two very similar materials.

User interface changes

Small changes to the user interface are illustrated below. Holding the mouse over the second column in the Matched or Candidate Materials lists will display a pop-up window containing an analysis of that material's match.

Maintenance

A number of maintenance issues have been generated by the new Microsoft operating systems which have appeared over the last few years. Some are listed below:

  • The install procedure now uses the Windows Installer mechanism. No files are written to the system directory, instead the default locations are c:\Program Files\CSM and c:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystallographica. To avoid leaving old DLL files in your system directory please be sure to uninstall any older versions of CSM before upgrading.
  • The Word report mechanism has been tweaked to accommodate newer versions of Word.
  • The built-in Report mechanism has been tweaked to solve problems with printing under certain operating systems.
  • Occasional crashes on completion of index file building have been eliminated.
